Draft Cover Analysis

Main Image

I have chosen a pupil in uniform as my main image as my magazine's main focus is being new to school. I chose for my pupil to wear the uniform to represent what a year 7 should look like when starting KHS. By seeing the picture too, pupils who are joining the school would know some of the expectations the school has with uniform. I chose for the pupil to have brunette hair as I think that on a magazine it looks better, fair hair would be washed out by the colour of the magazine background which would be white. Brunette hair however personally I think would stand out more.  I would like to have a year 7 on my main imagine rather than a year 11 because I want the picture to represent a new year 7 who is about to start their new journey in King Henry VIII school.

 Splash

I have chosen this as my splash as it fully describes in a short simple phrase what the magazine is about which is about being new to school. By just reading this people will know that this is the main story of the magazine. I chose this font as it is bold and easy to read yet very simple. However I think that perhaps using the colour red would have been more effective as my magazine has the colour scheme of black, yellow and red. Red on a black blazer would stand out more than blue.

Pug

My pug is incredibly simple, but I have stuck to the colour scheme of my magazine. What it says is simply 'dance club opens' advertising this club for more people to join this new year. People in schools have different interests and dance is also an activity which will keep students fit and also have fun with it. You can also see I have included a price, perhaps a little expensive for school magazine. I would reduce the price to a pound.

Masthead

I have chosen the typical 'KHS' written in yellow with a black background to represent the school logo. I have also used the colour red for the word 'magazine' as I feel it stands out a lot. They both also tie in together nicely.  I think the font I have chosen also stands out. I have chosen 'break time' as pupils could potentially read this on their break time to find out more information about the school.

Footer bar

I chose this as my footer bar because starting out in secondary school can be very stressful. I think it is important that new pupils understand that there are ways to cope with stress and here there would be tips on also ways to prevent stress for example: keeping up to date with homework deadlines and being organised. The font is yet again simple but eye catching it is easy to read and I chose for it to be in red as i felt that the colour would be more eye catching than just black.

Sell lines

I have chosen 4 sell lines to accommodate my magazine. I have chosen to put the words that I feel are the most important in red as I felt this way it is more eye catching than having it all in black writing. I have chosen the 'record breaking GCSE results 2016' to celebrate the success of the other pupils in this school. I have also added the question and answers with both Mrs Lewis and the student as I think that pupils will want to hear from the head with some of the questions. But I think that having a students view is also really useful to pupils who are new to the school as they are experienced and will be able to give them direct advice on the questions that have been asked.

Full cover

This is my full front cover of my magazine. Overall I am happy with the way it looks. I feel that it is informative and well laid out which makes it easy to read.
